Diclofenac Sodium Injection is a non-sedative painkiller, belongs to a group of medicines called non- steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID). It is primarily taken to reduce pain and inflammation. Pain is an unpleasant sensation and emotional experience that is associated with damage to tissue. It allows the body to react and prevent further tissue damage. Pain can be short-term (acute) or long-term (chronic). Perception of pain can differ from person to person where from tolerable to non-tolerable.

Indications

Diclofenac Sodium Injection is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

Pharmacology

Diclofenac Sodium Injection is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the chemical effect of an enzyme called cyclo-oxygenase (COX) which produces prostaglandins (mediators of pain and inflammation) which are responsible for the sense of pain and inflammation produced at the sites of injury and damage.

Interactions

DDrugs containing painkillers (nimesulide, oxyphenbutazone, metamizole), anti-blood clotting agents (warfarin), blood pressure-lowering agents (hydrochlorothiazide), medicines for mania (lithium), etc. should not be taken with Diclofenac Sodium injection as they may interact with it. Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these..

Side Effects

Stomach pain, Heartburn, Nausea (feeling sick), Vomiting (being sick), Diarrhea, Indigestion, Loss of appetite, Headache, Dizziness, Pain at the site of injection, and The skin may become hard at the site of injection.

Precautions & Warnings

  • Consumption of alcohol should be avoided during the treatment with Diclofenac Sodium injection as it may lead to an increased risk of liver damage
  • If you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, ask your doctor or nurse for advice before being given Diclofenac Sodium injection. If this happens to you, do not drive or use machinery
